Mountainburg’s Music in the Park will begin its second season with music, a city-wide yard sale and a benefit for the senior center Saturday, April 30.

This is the second year for Music in the Park, and organizers, Mountainburg Mayor Neal Moon and his wife Carol Moon, have made some changes, they said.

"We’ve changed our format a little this year," Neal Moon said. "Instead of every first Saturday of the month we’ve chosen random dates to prevent conflict with other activities in the community."

Also different this year is that each music event will be dedicated as a fundraiser for a specific civic organization, Neal Moon said.

There is no cost to attend Music in the Park, but each organization will be in charge of selling food and drinks and will keep 100 percent of the profits, Carol Moon said.

"We wanted to do more to promote the community," Carol Moon said.

As part of each event, which is held from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Mountainburg City Park, two bands will perform for about one hour each, Neal Moon said. A variety of local talent will perform for a few minutes before each band, he said.

A city-wide yard sale also will be held in conjunction with the first and last music events this season. Booth space will be available in the park for $10, with the proceeds going to benefit that day’s sponsored organization, Carol Moon said.

The couple started the event last year as a way to showcase local talent, Carol Moon said.

"This whole thing started because the park stage was built years before but never used," Carol Moon said. "We realized we had a lot of local talent and we wanted to utilize it. We thought it would be a good way for people to share their talent in music and for people to come together in the community."

Music events will be from April 30 through Oct. 15.
