A man is being held in the Crawford County Detention Center on suspicion of murder.

Randall Jordan, 35, is being held on charges of capital murder, third degree domestic battery and terroristic threatening. He was arrested Friday, June 10, in connection to the murder of Larry Jones, said Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown.

Jones, 55, was badly beaten while sleeping in his home at 5305 Grand Juniper Road in Van Buren on Friday and died in the hospital later that day, Brown said.

"We do have an eyewitness that saw the altercation and that is why we’re holding Jordan for the murder," Brown said.

According to witness statements, Jones had been allowing Jordan, who was unemployed, to stay with him until recently, Brown said.

Witnesses said Jordan went in to Jones’ house at about 5:21 a.m. on Friday and attacked him while he was still in bed, Brown said. While Jordan was no longer living in the home, there was no forced entry, Brown said.

Deputies recovered a club-like weapon, possibly an axe handle, at the scene of the crime that is consistent with Jones’ wounds, Brown said.

Emergency responders originally went to Jones’ home on a 911 medical call, Brown said, but found that Jones had been taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

A deputy went to the hospital to take Jones’ statement, but he was unresponsive, Brown said. A family member of Jones told the deputy about the altercation and that the suspect was still at Jones’ house, Brown said.

When deputies arrived at Jones’ residence, they found another family member holding Jordan at gunpoint, Brown said. The person then released Jordan to the deputies, he said.

It was during this time that the victim died, Brown said.

Jordan’s bond is set at $500,000 and his arraignment is set for Wednesday, June 22. The investigation into the murder is ongoing, Brown said.
