The Old Town Merchants Association will host its first Cruising on Main on Saturday in historic downtown Van Buren.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with registration at Blanche Moore Memorial Park with crusing to begin at 6 p.m., according to Lonnie London, president of TOTMA.

"We will have lots of cars crusing on Main Street," London said. "There will be loads of music, food, entertainment by Oreo Blue, and much to do for the entire family most of the day."

Oreo Blue will perform beginning at 9 p.m. in Blanche Moore Memorial Park in the 700 block of Main St.

The group was founded as a blues-rooted band in 1991 by Brian Crowne. When he retired in 2006, the core of the band remained.

Co-founder and bassist Rod Williamson, guitartist Gary Hutchison and drummer Stephen Boudreaux re-invented the band with the return of vocalist Chrissy Payton and the addition of keyboardist Rick Endel.

Oreo Blue has produced eight independently released original audio CDs that have sold copies in more than 30 countries. Recently, Oreo Blue produced a full length CD/DVD video tribute to Jimi Hendrix that was endorsed by the Hendrix family. In 2006, the Oreo Blue Experience was named the No. 1 Hendrix tribute for the year by Voodoo Child Magazine.

Having garnered individual awards in each member’s category by both the NAMA’s and OMA awards, Oreo Blue has been named blues band of the year five times, earned the OMA award for overall musicianship in 2004 and 2005, and was named to the NAMA Hall of Fame in 2006. Hutchison received the OMA lifetime achievement award in 2004.

"Don’t miss the great shopping and everything else going on during the Cruising On Main Weekend," London said.
