Crawford County Conservation League will hold its annual kids’ fishing rodeo from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Lake Lou Emma.

The fishing rodeo has been an annual event since 1953.

The event is open for kids up to the age of 16 years old with prizes given for the largest fish in three age categories. Prizes also will be awarded for the first fish caught, the first turtle and various other "firsts."

Fishing equipment preferred is a cane pole. Casting rods, unless tied off to prevent casting will not be allowed. This is a safety requirement due to the large number of kids that will be present.

Hot dogs, soft drinks and ice cream will be available at the lake on the day of the rodeo at nominal cost.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will stock the lake the Thursday before the rodeo with about 2,000 pounds of catfish. Lake Lou Emma will be closed at that time until after the kids’ rodeo.

Lake Lou Emma is located on Arkansas 59 just north of the Interstate 40 overpass in Van Buren.
