State Rep. Gary Deffenbaugh has announced his intention to run for a fourth term in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He represents district 79, which encompasses the city limits of Van Buren.
During Deffenbaugh’s time in the House, he has served on judiciary, education, aging, children, youth and military affairs committees. He also has been a party of the City, County and Local Affairs Committee and was co-chair of Audit-Educational Institutions.
Deffenbaugh retired from the Van Buren School District in 2010. He has taught mathematics and coached multiple sports for 39 years. Part of his educational career was spent in Fort Smith, Booneville and Paris.
Deffenbaugh has been married to the former Carolyn Yeager for 44 years. They have a daughter and son-in-law, April and Howard Simmons, and a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Annie Deffenbaugh. They also have six grandchildren, Jake, Holly, Emma, Nevaeh and Mattison Simmons and Palmer Deffenbaugh.
The Deffenbaughs are members of First Baptist Church in Van Buren, where both serve as Sunday school teachers.
