Barbie Curtis will seek reelection as city clerk - treasurer for the City of Van Buren in the Nov. 4 general election.

During Curtis’ time as city clerk, her office has upgraded accounting and finance software to operate more efficiently.

In 2014, her office added Avante Laserfiche document imaging to make city documents and public records accessible on the city website.

Curtis has achieved master municipal clerk status through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks at the University of Arkansas, and earned certified municipal clerk status through the Arkansas City Clerk Recorder and Treasurers Association.

State activities for Curtis include serving on the Arkansas Municipal League Municipal Health Benefit Board for 15 years, the ARML Advisory Council for Large First Class Cities for 15 years and the ARML Investments Committee for three years.

Curtis has served every officer position in the ACCRTA, and was president for the State Clerk’s Association in 2004-05.

Curtis was clerk of the year in 2007 for the State Clerk’s Association, and received the Adrian White Municipal Leadership Award in 2007 and the Marvin Vinson Commitment to Excellence Award in 2013 from the ARML.

Locally, Curtis has participated in Leadership Crawford County, Van Buren Fire Academy and Citizen’s Police Academy.

Curtis is a graduate of Van Buren High School and member of First Baptist Church of Van Buren. She is married to Scott Curtis and they have two sons, Joshua and Jordan.
