Danny Moore has been named the baseball commissioner for the Boys and Girls Club of Van Buren.
Moore, a graduate of Van Buren High School, said he plans to help build the club’s spring and fall baseball programs into the best the area has to offer.
With the help of the coaches, Moore said he would like to see players improve their baseball skills on the field as they develop into young adults off the field.
"I want to get the Field of Dreams to be the "premier" facility for USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) teams to want to come and participate in the VBB&G club tournaments not only for the purpose of fund-raising for the club but to bring as much economic impact to the city of Van Buren as possible," Moore said.
Cindy Faldon, director of the club, said she is very excited about Moore filling the position.
"Danny is a very organized and professional individual," Faldon said.
Moore has been been in the sign and graphic design business for 31 years. He and his wife Debbie have four children, Brandon, Courtney, Chase and Brooke.
He served on the VBB&G club board for two years and coached VBB&G club baseball for nine years and basketball for four years. He served on the Fort Smith fall baseball board for 11 years and helped start and is serving on the River Valley fall baseboard board.
Moore has been a USSSA baseball board for 13 years and USSSA baseball tournament director for 12 years.
He said his hobbies are his children.
Brandon recently married his wife Jackie.
"Debbie and I have enjoyed watching Brandon from VBB&G club t-ball to Van Buren High School baseball to Arkansas Razorback baseball and then on to being drafted to the Milwaukee Brewers," Moore said. "We are looking forward to his second full season in their minor league system this year. Brandon also enjoyed playing basketball from VBB&G club until high school when he decided to solely concentrate on baseball."
Courtney is a junior at the University of Arkansas where she is working on an advanced math teaching degree. Courtney serves as a Diamond Doll for the Razorback baseball team and an assistant to Kelly Moore, secretary and camp coordinator for the U of A baseball team. She also is participating in the UofA Athletic Tutoring Program.
"Growing up in Van Buren, Courtney enjoyed everything from band, basketball, cheer & really loved playing volleyball for VBHS,"Moore said.
Chase is a ninth grader at the Freshman Academy.
"Chase has enjoyed playing baseball starting with VBB&G club and playing USSSA baseball and fall baseball since he was 7 years old," Moore said. "He has also enjoyed playing basketball for the VBB&G club, VB schools and travel teams."
Brooke attends Northridge Middle School.
"She enjoys band and looks forward to hopefully playing volleyball and cheering for Northridge," Moore said. "Brooke has excelled at participating on Didions Athletic’s team gymnastics and now enjoys taking tumbling classes at Didions."
