Van Buren police on Thursday arrested a couple suspected of committing a number of thefts.
Teddy Wilson, 40, and Britt Wilson, 38, both of Van Buren, were arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, felony theft of property and criminal mischief. Teddy Wilson was booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center and Britt Wilson was booked into the Crawford County Adult Detention Center, according to a news release from detective Jonathan Wear of the Van Buren Police Department.
On Tuesday, Van Buren police put out a news release regarding several instances of theft from newly built homes in Van Buren. The release listed three free-standing ranges as being stolen within the last four weeks.
Van Buren police arrested Teddy and Britt Wilson after a multi-agency effort with Fort Smith, Lavaca, Barling and Greenwood police. Police received a tip from the public after the first news release was issued, Wear stated.
Police believe the couple traveled to multiple new housing additions in the area where they stole appliances and sold them. Most of the items stolen were new stoves, but investigators believe other related thefts might have occurred, the release states.
An investigation is ongoing and the department encourages anyone with information on the thefts, or anyone who suspects they possibly purchased a stolen appliance, to call the Van Buren Police Department at (479) 474-1234.
