Fort Smith Police have named 26-year-old Rancari Pope in connection to Thursday’s shooting at 3400 Duke Ave.

The victim remains in stable condition at a local hospital, a police spokesperson noted Thursday evening. Pope is being held with no bond at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. He faces charges of first-degree battery, aggravated robbery, and aggravated residential burglary.

The police report states that the victim was already in the ambulance with multiple gunshot wounds by the time police arrived on the scene.

Even though one bullet went through the ceiling of the apartment, there was no exit hole in the apartment above, which was empty.

According to a FSPD online post, witnesses helped officers identify the person of interest after the shooting at Briarwood Apartments.

The person of interest was first detained by Arkansas State Police in Crawford County shortly after the incident was called in.
