Crawford County will observe National Day of Prayer at noon Thursday, May 2, at the Crawford County Courthouse in downtown Van Buren.
Day of Prayer serves as an opportunity for people of all ages and from all walks of faith to meet and pray for others.
Area leaders, pastors and businessmen will lead prayers for the area as well as the nation, according to David King, one of the organizers of the annual event.
This year’s National Day of Prayer theme is “Love One Another.” The theme comes from the words of Jesus in John 13:34, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed the amended law designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every year, millions of Americans, in tens of thousands of meetings across all 50 states, come together for unified public prayer for America.
In the event of rain, National Day of Prayer will be moved to the Van Buren First Baptist Church chapel.
