After a slow start, the Van Buren Freshmen Academy punched their tickets to the 6A West Regional tournament hosted by Kimmons.
The Pointers defeated Trinity 52-50 in overtime on Thursday at home.
The Lady Pointers held Trinity to just eight points in the second half to win Thursday’s game 27-21.
The Pointers picked up the No. 4 seed for the tournament. Kimmons won the River Valley Conference title after finish 13-0 followed by Chaffin (10-4) and Greenwood (7-7).
Alma (7-7) missed the post-season play after its loss to the Bulldogs. The Lady Airedales’ season also ended on Thursday night after its loss to Greenwood (14-0). Both Kimmons and the Lady Pointers were 8-6 in league play and took third and fourth respectively. Chaffin (10-4) will be the No. 2 seed for the tournament.
Van Buren 52, Trinity 50 (OT)
Connor Brady led Van Buren with 19 points and scored all seven points in overtime.
The Pointers rallied from at 31-17 deficit with about two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Devin Gattis hit a three and Brady converted a steal into points to help the Pointers get within seven, 33-26. Back-to-back three-point buckets by Black would give Van Buren its first lead of the game, 35-34. The game would be tied up 45-45 at the end of regulation.
Black added 14 points and Gattis tossed in 11.
The Pointers had a slow start and began 9-0. Devin Gattis got Van Buren on the board, and Trinity led 23-13 at the break.
Van Buren 27, Trinity 21
The Lady Pointers went up 6-4 in the first quarter, but the Lady Buffalo came back to go up 13-10 for halftime.
Trinity held to a 17-16 lead after three quarters of play. Van Buren outscored Trinity 11-4 in the fourth.
Bri Ball led with 12 points and Brook Fancher added eight.
