Alma Public Library along with the Van Buren Public Library are in the final days of the 2018 Mister Rogers Sweater Drive, an event that focuses on neighbors helping neighbors.

Friday is the last day to drop off items at either library. New or gently used warm clothing items are being accepted, including sweaters, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, coats and jackets.

All items collected at the Van Buren Public Library will be donated directly to individuals in need through The Salvation Army of Arkansas.  The items collected at the Alma Public Library will be donated to the Alma Community Outreach Center.

Those who donate at either library location will be entered into a drawing for a prize.

Donations may be dropped off at 624 Fayetteville Ave. in Alma or 1409 Main Street in Van Buren.

The drive is a yearly event sponsored by AETN and participating libraries across the state of Arkansas. It is held during the month of November to honor Fred Rogers, the host of the kids show Mister Rogers Neighborhood that aired from 1968 to 2001.

Fred Rogers began the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive in 1997 as a way to encourage neighborly spirit.

Last year, Arkansans donated more than 5000 sweaters for neighbors in need.
