The annual fundraiser of the Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy, the Adult Spelling Bee, was held on Thursday October 18th at the Van Buren High School Fine Arts Auditorium. Eleven teams were sponsored by local businesses, organizations and individuals. Each team consisted of two to three local adults. The multi-member teams were designed so that blame could be shared among the team should a word be misspelled. It was all in fun. There was also a “FURST AUT” trophy awarded to the first misspelling. Again, all in fun. Each team was encouraged to bring a Cheer Leader squad that cheered for their team with noise makers and pom-poms. The best Cheer Leaders were awarded a trophy as were the first, second and third place spelling winners.
The competition was interrupted throughout the evening with door prize drawings. Tickets were sold prior to the event for over 30 nice gifts donated by area community businesses.
