Hot Springs Concert Band will present its annual fall concert at Woodlands Auditorium at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct.14. The band is under direction of conductor Dr. Craig Hamilton.
Each year, Community First Trust sponsors the fall concert.
This year’s concert is titled “Autumn Leaves,” and the band will play “Autumn Leaves,” arguably the most important non-American jazz standard.
Eric Whittaker’s “October” continues the theme, as does Johann Strauss’s polka, “Thunder and Lightening.”
Halloween gets a nod with House of Horrors: A Medley of Spooky Music. Featured in this amusing medley that’s full of surprises are: Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor;”
Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain;” Chopin’;s “Funeral March;” and Gounod’s “Funeral March of a Marionette.” The audience can expect the witty Dr. Hamilton to be at his wittiest when he conducts this piece.
The band will perform its obligatory Sousa march. In keeping this concert’s autumn theme, Hamilton chose “The Thunderer,” Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite of her husband’s marches.
For movie music fans, the band will present music from “Lawrence of Arabia” and”The Wizard of Oz.”
Tickets are $12 and are available at or from any band member.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
