The Hot Springs Village Concerts Association will present child protegy pianist Ethan Bortnick to Woodlands Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-16.
Bortnick received his first piano lessons at 3 years old and discovered his ability to hear a piece and play it back note for note. He soaked up the music of Beethoven, Mozart, jazz pianist Bill Evans, Little Richard, Billy Joel and Elton John. Original compositions began at age 5. Note that his parents and grandparents do not play any musical instruments.
Bortnick turns 18 by year’s end and has already toured in Japan, Brazil, Canada, South Africa and Australia. A devoted humanitarian, Bortnick combines his musical works with charitable work. He has helped raise $50 million for nonprofits around the world.
At these events, he’s shared the stage with Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Beyonce, Josh Groban, and Reba McEntire.
In 2010, he joined Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Celine Dion, and Carlos Santana as the youngest all-star lineup that recorded “We Are The World 25 For Haiti.”
His successful nationally televised TV show, “The Power of Music” has been the top concert pledge show on Public Television for 2014/2015 pledge drives, and is still running nationwide, winning multiple awards.
Along with presidents and other American legends, as one of the most influential people of the last 80 years, Bortnick made the cover of Esquire magazine.
Bortnick has been featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Good Morning America” and “Oprah,” where he was named one of Oprah’s All Time Smartest, Most Talented Kids.
Shooting a full length feature film, “Anything Is Possible” in September 2013, he starred in the film, co-wrote all of the songs, and scored all the background music.
Billy Joel’s musical director, Dave Rosenthal, renowned globally, is also Bortnick’s musical director.
This may well be the opportunity of a lifetime to see this caliber of a performer at Woodlands.
