Fort Smith Public Schools alumnus Tony Jones was officially named director of Belle Point Center on Friday.
“My experience here as a student was a good one,” Jones said. “I had many coaches, teachers and administrators who were helpful toward my success, which made me realize early on that I wanted to coach, but felt that I could benefit students more as an administrator.”
Jones oversees operations at the school as students aim to transition back into their traditional schools, earn their GED or graduate with a high school diploma, according to a news release.
“I believe I have the mix of appropriate firmness, as well as patience to help benefit the students of Belle Point Center,” Jones says in the release.
Jones has served as the director since the beginning of the year, according to the release, and has already had students volunteer at the River Valley Regional Food Bank and hosted a Hoops for Hunger 3 on 3 basketball tournament, where teams could enter for the price of canned food donations.
Jones previously taught at Northside High School for five years before serving as assistant principal at Kimmons Junior High and Northside.
