Two Van Buren schools have received A ratings from the Arkansas Department of Education.

City Heights Elementary School and Northridge Middle School were the only schools in Crawford County to get A’s when ADE released the latest school performance reports in which schools are rated on an A to F scale.

“The reports, which reflect information from the 2016-17 school year, highlight student academic achievement and growth, graduation rate and school quality and student success for public schools in the state,” said Johnny Key, commissioner of ADE.

Mary McCutchen is principal at City Heights, which received an 82.84 overall school rating score. CHE has 390 students with an average class size of 18 and an average teaching experience of 14 years.

Lonnie Mitchell is principal at Northridge, which received an overall rating score of 79.02. Northridge has 622 students with an average class size of 17 and an average teaching experience of 13 years.

Butterfield Trail Middle School and Freshman Academy received B ratings, Central, Tate, King and Rena Elementary schools C ratings and Parkview Elementary School a D rating.

Alma High School, Alma Intermediate School and Alma Primary School received B ratings and Alma Middle School a C rating.

In Cedarville, the middle school had a B rating while the high school and elementary school received C ratings.

Mountainburg Middle School received a C rating while the elementary and high schools received D ratings.

Mulberry High School and Marvin Elementary School received D ratings while the Pleasant View campus was rated B.

Across the state, C’s were the most common rating. In Arkansas, more than 36 percent of elementary schools, more than 32 percent of middle level schools and more than 40 percent of high schools received Cs.

Of 301 high schools in the state, 50 received D ratings and nine high schools received F ratings.

Of 204 middle level schools, 32 received D ratings and two received F ratings.

Of 535 elementary schools, 83 received A ratings.
