Almost Home Shelter and Rescue in Van Buren is seeking volunteers for a variety of positions including shelter volunteers, transporters and foster homes.
There will be an informational meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Van Buren Public Library, according to Almost Home volunteer Rebecca Kaszubowski.
“New volunteers that have already volunteered at the shelter, but have not been to an orientation, are encouraged to attend as well,” Kaszubowski said.
Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Children ages 13-15 can volunteer but must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
Almost Home Shelter and Rescue also will provide a dog training consultation session for anyone who has adopted a dog from Almost Home from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Van Buren Public Library.
Kaszubowski said the consultation is designed to provide new pet owners with helpful information on how to transition your new pet into your family. The training will include special tips on helping your shelter dogs acclimate to their new life out of the shelter.
Additional topics will include introducing a new pet to children and other pets in your home, as well as important training tips to keep the owner and dog safe. The consultation will be conducted by Bryan Litchford of Paws Companion Dog Training.
