An acrylic painting by a local doctor will be sold as part of the Oct. 7 Sparks Stampede hosted by Sparks Medical Center - Van Buren.

The piece titled “Boy Meets Girl” is by Dr. Patric Anderson, an emergency room physician at Sparks - Van Buren.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the stampede with the painting to be given away Oct. 31, according to Mary Jo Brinkman, race organizer. Tickets will be $1 each, five for $6 or 10 for $12.

Ticket sales, as proceeds from the Sparks Stampede, will benefit the River Valley Ovarian Cancer Alliance and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Last year’s Sparks Stampede raised more than $7,500 for the two organizations.

Anderson has at least 12 paintings hanging in the Van Buren hospital, he said. Many of those are abstract and layered with acrylic and oil paint, which creates texture to the point of being three dimensional.

Anderson has had no professional training, but art has been a hobby and passion of his since college, he said. His grandmother was an artist, and he inherited her acrylic paints after she died.

“I try to bring good colors together,” Anderson said. “That’s what makes me happy.”

Anderson and his wife, Cheryl, have a barn filled with his works, both completed or in progress. He often gives artwork away or sells them for charity, he said.

Anderson also has exhibited his work at the Center for Art and Education and in his wife’s law office, he said. Anderson’s wife is his “first critic” and the measure for the value he sets on each piece, he said.
