Alma Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf tournament May 15 at Eagle Crest Golf Course.

This year the tournament has been renamed as the Crossroads Classic to align with the city’s image and motto as the Crossroads of America, said Alma Area Chamber of Commerce Brian Huff.

This will be the Alma chamber’s largest fundraiser for the year, Huff said.

“It’s success is vital to us being able to carry out our plan of work for the rest of the year,” Huff said. “With no Spinach Festival this year, we’re really having to be conscious of where we’re spending our dollars…to promote the area and grow the chamber.”

Presented by Crabtree RV Center, the tournament will be a four player team scramble with golf cart, snacks and on-course drinks provided, as well as a barbecue lunch sponsored by Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions.

Cost to play is $75 per player or $300 for a team. Mulligans are $5 each, with a maximum of four per team.

Registration is at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be served at noon and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., Huff said.

A to Z Sporting Goods is sponsoring the driving range, so players will have unlimited range balls to warm up, Huff said.

“They are also going to have a demo tent at the range so golfers can try out some of the latest equipment to hit the market,” Huff said.

First place will receive a cash prize and second place will be awarded a prize yet to be determined, Huff said. Other prizes and the likelihood of a second flight will be determined by the number of entries, he said.

Eight teams already have signed up for the tournament, but Huff is looking to sign at least 12, he said.

Huff hopes to expand the tournament in the coming years, he said.

“If we get traction and are able to grow the golf tournament, then hopefully in the future we can use a portion of the proceeds to go toward college scholarships and give back to the community,” Huff said.

Hole and game sponsorships are still available, Huff said. To sponsor, volunteer, enter a team or donate door prizes, contact Huff at (479) 632-4127 or almachamber@gmail.com.
