Coralee Young, a 2013 graduate of Van Buren High School and student at the School for Theatre and Dance at the University of Houston, has been named outstanding lead actress in a musical for her role as Susan Lawrence in "Big: The Musical," a Young Actors Guild production.

The production, which was directed by Missy Gipson, also won outstanding ensemble award.

Young and her family will travel to New York City where she will perform and be recognized.

This year, more than 400 productions were considered for the awards, including shows from more than 130 different theaters in more than 60 cities spanning 12 states. This year’s award winners were selected from nominations by a panel of more than 25 judges and reviewers.

In addition to the youth who performed in schools and youth theater companies, anyone age 18 and under who performed at a show reviewed by a National Youth Arts judge also was considered for the awards.

Coralee is the daughter of Donna and Dwayne Young of Van Buren.
