River Valley Primary Care Services broke ground Thursday on a 4,000-square-foot expansion of their Mulberry Family Clinic.

River Valley’s new clinic will have a more spacious layout and allow room for a third provider, said RVPCS Medical Director Kelli Rippy.

Mulberry’s current clinic, which will be used for professional offices once the expansion is complete, is about 3,000 square feet and only allows for two providers, Rippy said.

"But we are absolutely maxed out at two, and even a little bit too small," Rippy said. "We are quite busy at the clinic and have enough patients for three providers, we just haven’t had the physical room."

Total costs on the expansion will be about $750,000, said RVPCS Chief Executive Officer Jerry White. The new clinic will have 10 exam rooms and a saferoom, White said.

Groundbreaking on the new clinic took place next door to the current location at 437 N. Main St., which White said has been there about 60 years.

Mulberry Family Clinic has been under River Valley ownership since 2009, White said.

Mulberry Mayor Gary Baxter called the expansion a big investment for RVPCS.

"For a community the size of Mulberry, this is a big deal. This expansion will give us added amenity in our community to entice people to move to Mulberry," Baxter said. "This shows the people that we’re in a growth pattern, and River Vally would not be investing this type of money in this community if they didn’t feel the same way."

Mulberry Family Clinic is expected to open at its new location in November.

Bank of the Ozarks provided loans for the expansion, Jo Minden is the architect and the construction company is Circle M out of Ratcliff.
