A chili supper fundraiser to benefit the Crawford County Extension Homemakers Club is set for Friday at the Crawford County Extension Office in Van Buren.
A bowl of chili or beans, crackers or cornbread, toppings, a dessert, and drink are included in the meal, which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the extension office at 105 Pointer Trail West.
Cost for the meal is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for kids age 4 and under.
Proceeds from the dinner will be put toward costs for local members to attend a state extension homemakers meeting that will include education sessions and leadership training, said Amy Cofer with the Crawford County Extension Agency.
"This money will go to help cut the costs for a lot of these ladies," Cofer said.
Crawford County Extension Homemakers Club members are active in the community, working with groups such as Court Appointed Special Advocates of Crawford County and 4-H, Cofer said.
A scholarship is sponsored by the club for 4-H members and the homemakers group has donated money to go toward a cabin rental for a multi-county 4-H trip, Cofer said.
Last year, members of the club prepared and served lunch to participants of the Cass Job Corps training program that were working to clean up and restore Lee Creek Park in Van Buren.
"Club members are very good cooks, so that is a great way for them to help the community," Cofer said.
A silent auction and bake sale also will be held during the chili supper and door prizes given out.
