Kinney earns medalist honors against Alma
Van Buren defeated Alma in a round of golf on Thursday at Eagle Crest as Jamilyn Kinney and Alma’s David Mullins earned medalist honors.
The Pointers finished with a team score of 167 and Wahman led with a 39, one stroke behind Mullins. Joe Hamby turned in a 40 and Cole Matthews fired off a 43. Luke Whitlow added a 45 to round out the scoring. Other Van Buren golfers competing were Bret Plunket (50) and Connor Catron (43).
Airedale golfers included Easton Sutterfield (44), Keesler Nye (47), Christian Stahler (49), Parker Edwards (51) and Tanner Bright (52).
Kinney fired off a 39, two strokes ahead of Alma’s Olivia Faught. Bre Lee had a 46 and Jaelyn Cooper (58) also competed for the Lady Pointers.
Kinsley Hall added a 61 for the Lady Airedales.
Medina finishes in Top 25 at Memphis event
Van Buren’s Emilio Medina finished 21st out of 386 runners on Sept. 5 at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
Medina completed the run in 16:59.01 and was the third highest Arkansas finisher at the event. Toler Freyaldenhoven (Conway) was fifth overall and Kieran Taylor (Catholic) was ninth overall.
The Lady Pointers finished 25th out of 46 teams from at least seven different states.
Madi Chitwood paced Van Buren by finishing 71st (21:27.11). Other Lady Pointer runners included Daisy Connor (113, 22:33.04), Jordan Brodie (124, 22:51.05), Katie Barnwell (140, 23:13.35) and Marisol Osorio (219, 25:42.65).
The Pointers placed 39th out of 50 teams. Other Van Buren runners were Travis Cooper (205, 20:05.37), Cameron Rush (221, 20:15.26), Parker Wilson (239, 20:41.97), Brandon Lee (277, 21:37.66) and Alex Webb (287, 22:01.71).
Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.) won both the men’s and women’s division.
The Lady Lancers won the meet by placing five runners in the Top 25 and providing the one-two punch of taking first and second place in the women’s division. Lafayette edged out Houston by five points (66-71).
The Lancers had runners place second, third and fourth and finished with 48 points. West Plains (Mo.) was runner-up in the men’s division with 119 points.
Lady Pointers fall to Russellville
RUSSELLVILLE — The Lady Cyclones defeated Van Buren in three (25-15, 25-20, 25-1) Tuesday.
