First Baptist Van Buren will be home Friday to a sold out fifth annual Leadercast Van Buren one-day leadership event.
Leadercast will be simulcast live from Atlanta direct to hundreds of locations across North America and around the world.
"We are so excited to be entering our fifth year with much of the same or charter sponsors that helped us to get this great day of leadership going," said Debbie Foliart of The Destiny Group. "I sort of like to look at it as a ‘pay it forward’ opportunity. Those of us who have been in leadership roles in the community trying to give back in some way, but also paying it forward to the next generation who will someday be leading this community or others and teaching their next generation."
An overview of the day includes:
• First session: Andy Stanley, Leadership author and communicator; Cmdr. Rorke Denver, Navy seal commander and officer.
• Second session: Malala Yousafzai, Nobel laureate and founder of the The Malala Fund; Peyton Manning, Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
• Third session: Coach Robb Smith, defensive coordinator, University of Arkansas; Seth Godin, best selling author and innovative thinker; Ed Catmull, Ppesident of Pixar and Disney Animation Studios.
• Fourth session: Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman; Aja Brown, mayor of Compton, Calif.; Rudy Guiliani, 107th mayor of New York City.
"This one-day leadership event features several national leaders speaking on ‘The Brave Ones’ in your home, family and business lives, but will also include local speaker Defensive Coordinator Coach Robb Smith from the University of Arkansas to speak during the lunch hour," Foliart said.
There will be morning coffee, breakfast, two extended breaks and a great lunch break for networking in between sessions, that is utilized increasing by the attendees.
"We are really very proud to be partners with the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce in hosting this event," Foliart said. "It brings enormous opportunities to small businesses who struggle with attending or even sending their employees due to timing, travel, budget restraints. The small to medium sized businesses can be on an even playing field with this opportunity being right here in the heart of Van Buren, where there is basically no travel, less time away from work, no additional food expense and they are not having to provide overnight stays away from home. And the real take away is that you and others that attend the event will come away feeling energized, inspired and challenged."
This will be the fourth year that the local Leadercast team will offer scholarship opportunities to Crawford County juniors that have already been chosen through the help of the counselors at the local high schools. Each will work throughout the day with the team as volunteers, as part of the criteria, to get a feel for business related functions and work alongside local business professionals.
Also presentations will be made for last year’s scholarship winners, Malia Hernandez of Cedarville High School and Logan Needham of Van Buren High School as winners of the 2014 Next Generation Scholarship awards.
Chamber Executive Diretor Jackie Krutsch said, "We are very excited to offer continuing education hours certification as we do every year for professional leadership development for recognition of completion for CEU’s that can be used by many who attend toward their objectives in continuing education for general practice, as well as for the HR and nursing industries. Our registration or resource center First Impression team will have all of the information needed to direct you to the new Leadercast App to enable you to complete the forms to receive your documentations. Again, a great opportunity for especially the nursing and human resources industry to take advantage of local opportunities to get required hours of continuing education units."
