Alma DECA hosted "Fire Safety Day" Oct. 22 for the third grade students at the Alma Intermediate School. The students listened to a presentation over home safety, smoke alarms, and what to do in case of a fire.
With help from the Van Buren Fire Department and the Alma Volunteer Fire Department, three fire trucks and a smoke house were provided for the students to tour.
Fire Safety Day Crew member Dakota Shelton said, "The earlier we teach these kids to get out of a fire safely, the better off they’ll be in the future. They become more prepared."
Chairman of the project, Ashlyn Elliott said, "If you involve fun activities, the kids really will retain the knowledge. Something as simple as a song to tell them to stop, drop, and roll can help them for the rest of their life. Fire Safety Day is a great event and is planned to happen next October during fire safety month."
