Frances Barenberg

Frances Ann Barenberg, 69, of Alma died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, in Fort Smith. She was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Van Buren to the late Milton and Mary Thomas. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Merle Barenberg and his wife Shelly of Alma and Keith Barenberg and his wife Susan of Kansas, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Jacob Barenberg, Michael Payne, Sarah Barenberg, Tyler Barenberg, Dustin Payne, Justin Wallace, Jamie Wallace and Colton Barenberg; and two great-grandchildren, Merrick Tabarez and Piper Barenberg.

Funeral service was Aug. 20 at Concord Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial at Alma Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers were Tyler Barenberg, Justin Wallace, Jacob Barenberg, Michael Payne, Dustin Payne and Colton Barenberg.

Oscar Deffenbaugh

Oscar Clifford Deffenbaugh, 84, died Saturday morning, Aug. 17, 2013, at the Heritage Community Dunaway Manor in Guymon, Okla. The son of James Lamar and Annie (Brown) Deffenbaugh, he was born May 18, 1929, in Evansville, Ark. Oscar was raised and attended school in Evansville.

Oscar was united in marriage to Jessie Kay Workman on June 4, 1966, in Stillwell, Okla. The family moved to Lamar, Colo., where Oscar worked for Colorado Feeds in maintenance and as a mechanic. Later, Oscar and Jessie moved to Muldrow. Jessie preceded him in death on July 17, 1987. Following her death, Oscar traveled and eventually settled in Locust Grove, Okla., before moving to Guymon in 2001 to be near his daughter. In addition to his wife, Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; three sons: Chad, Keith and Tony Jones; one grandson, Brad Collins; two brothers, Lamar and Artimus Deffenbaugh; and one sister, Martha Vaugh.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Collins and husband Dave of Goodwell, Okla.; 17 grandchildren, Cye Collins of Hooker, Okla., Nathan Collins of Andrews, Texas, James Collins of Goodwell, Patrick Collins of Goodwell, Clayton Jones of Farmington, N.M., Debbie Magar of Midland, Texas, Ernest Keith Jones Jr. of Springdale, DeWayne Jones of Fort Smith, Angie Williams of Alma, Brian Jones of Fort Smith, Elmer Jones of Muldrow, Andrew Jones of Fort Smith, Bridgette Sisk of Liberty, Okla., Kimberly Jones of Liberty, Peter Jones of Liberty, Kaylo Jones and Shelen Rucker, both of Springdale; one brother, Donald Deffenbaugh of Sapulpa, Okla.; his special friend, Clela Balenseifen of Guymon along with numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Family memorial services were held at the Bunch - Roberts Chapel with Rev. Van Heckle, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, officiating.

Kathleen Wilkerson

Kathleen A. Wilkerson, 93, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in Fort Smith. She was born May 30, 1920 in Alma, member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith and widow of Wayne Wilkerson.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Kathleen Wilkerson of Fort Smith; a son, Sam Wilkerson of Tulsa; a sister, Ann Morrell of Mulberry; and five grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, AR. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Nola Martin

Nola Margaret Martin, 82, of Rudy died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Decatur to the late John and Ida Wooten. She was a member of Alma United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Martin, and a son, Steve Martin.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Martin of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Danny Martin and his wife Pat of Rudy and David Martin and his wife Melanie of Little Rock; seven grandchildren, Tammy, Kevin, Teresa, Rhett, Bobby, Maggie and Katie; and four great-grandchildren, Brianna, Keaton, Kelsie and Bailey.

Funeral service was Aug. 20 at Alma United Methodist Church with interment at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Jerry McGee

Jerry Dale McGee, 44, of Van Buren died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at his home. He worked as a contractor for Jarstin Construction Co.

A memorial service was Aug. 19 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; a daughter, Jessica McGee of Barling; a son, Jeffery McGee of Barling; his parents, Kenneth and Barbara McGee of Van Buren; and a sister, Dana McGee of Fort Smith.

James Fielding

James E. Fielding, 71, of Van Buren died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in Muskogee. He was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Dumas, Texas. He was a retired painter, member of Northside United Pentecostal Church, Army veteran and widower of Jarrell Fielding.

Funeral was Aug. 19 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial with full military honors at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by a daughter, Jannette Downing of Indiana; a son, Jimmy Fielding of Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Terri and Patricia Treadwell, both of Ola, and Debra Schultz of Van Buren; four stepsons, Clay, Greg and Danny Gipson, all of Arkansas, and David Gipson of Grady; two sisters, Annette Bell of Watauga, Texas, and Lela Nickell of Van Buren; three brothers, Phillip of The New Colony, Texas, and Ben and Steve Bailey, both of Van Buren; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brandon Batchelor

Brandon Elton Batchelor, 38, of Springdale died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. He was born Sept. 30, 1974, in Colorado Springs, Colo., and chief operating officer with Kimbel Mechanical Systems in Springdale. He graduated with honors from John Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in construction management and served on the advisory board of the JBU Construction Management division. He was active in Outreach Center Church in Siloam Springs, Cross Church in Springdale and Revolution Church in Rogers.

He is survived by his wife, Valbona; four children, Kristi, Benjamin, Elise and Amelia, all of the home; parents, Ron and Debi Batchelor of Siloam Springs; and three brothers, Bryan Batchelor of Silver Cliff, Colo., Ben Batchelor of Siloam Springs and Brad Batchelor of Siloam Springs.

A celebration of life service will be 6 p.m. today at The Cathedral of the Ozarks, John Brown University, Siloam Springs, with burial at 3:30 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs under the direction of Wassong Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

Katherine Garrett

Katherine Rader Garrett, 98, of Clarksville died Sunday, Aug., 18 2013, at her home. She was born June 14, 1915, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., graduate of the College of the Ozarks and retired school teacher in Oklahoma and Alma. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women’s Association and served on the board of sessions several times. She was the widow of Orville Earle Garrett.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Fulton of Clarksville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

Diranda Randolph

Diranda Shaw Randolph, 51, of Van Buren died Monday Aug. 19, 2013, at her home. She was a knife sharpener at Tyson Foods in Van Buren and attended Rudy Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Keesha Randolph of Kibler; a son, Shannon Nixon of Alabama; father, Donald Naugle of Ohio; a brother, Donald Naugle Jr. of Van Buren; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with cremation to follow.

Martha Peevy

Martha Jean Peevy, 85, of Alma died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, in Fort Smith. She was born June 1, 1928, in Truman, Ark., to the late Ira and Lucille Blakemore. She was a homemaker and attended the Dean Springs Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. "Gube" Peevy, and a son, Larry Don Peevy.

She is survived by two daughters, Sue Woolsey of Ozark and Doris Tounzen and husband Billy Ray of Van Buren; two sons, Walter Peevy and wife Debbie of Alma and David Peevy and wife Mary of Alma; a brother, Cecil Blakemore of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren, Robert and Jason Woolsey of Ozark, Lisa Skolarksi of Ozark, Christina Harris of Van Buren, Larry Don Tounzen of Van Buren, Andy Peevy of Dyer, Chad Peevy of Austin, Texas, Jessica Peevy of Tulsa, Jennifer Peevy of Alma and Matt Peevy of Alma; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Dean Springs Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Simmons Cemetery in Dyer under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Woolsey, Jason Woolsey, Michael Skolarksi, Chad Peevy, Andy Peevy, Matt Peevy, Larry Tounzen and Tony Harris.
