Old Timers Day is scheduled for May 10-12 in downtown Van Buren.
Sponsored by The Old Town Merchants Association, the annual festival will feature more than 100 arts and crafts booths along historic Main St. For vendor information, contact Patricia Howard at (479) 410-3026.
A variety of food and entertainment also will be available.
Gene Watson, considered one of the finest pure-country singers of his generation, will be the featured perform at this year’s Old Timers Day at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, May 11. From Houston, Texas, Watson has been performing for more than 50 years. His first radio single, the self-penned "If It’s That Easy," was released in 1962.
Watson’s tally of 75 charted titles, 23 top-10 hits and six number-one records has led to membership in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. His classics include "Farewell Party," "Fourteen Carat Mind" and "Love in the Hot Afternoon."
Watson earned the title of 2010 Country Music Legend of the Year from Citadel Media’s Real Country Radio Network nationwide fan vote.
Wes Turner, president of TOTMA, said Watson is one of the rare singers who still sings in the same key as he did 30 years ago and his audiences respond with standing ovations night after night when he nails the octave jumping last note on his most requested song, the now country classic "Farewell Party."
"Watson offers up one of the best traditional country shows in the business," Turner said. "His stunning voice captivates audiences and keeps his fans coming back again and again."
Opening for Watson will be The Dead Armadillo, scheduled to perform from 7 to 7:30 p.m. May 11.
On Friday, May 10, there will be a line dance demonstration from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at the stage at the train depot, followed by Crooked and Steep, who will perform from 7:15 to 9 p.m.
Performing Saturday, May 11, will be the James Young Band, 10:30 a.m. to noon; Brittany Hollis will do Loretta Lynn music from noon to 1 p.m.; Sarah Buben will do Patsy Cline songs from 1 to 2 p.m.; and Demin and Pearl from 2 to 3 p.m.
