Mountainburg fumbled inside the Eagle 5 and Union Christian engineered a 97-yard drive for the only score as the Eagles on the 2A-4 contest Thursday at Dragon Stadium.

The Dragons were marching on its opening drive, but suffered its first fumble of the night to end the threat.

The Eagles marched back 97 yards thanks to four plays of 10 yards or more. Eighth grader Christian Snipes hit Hauken Smith on a five-yard touchdown strike. Smith made the two-point conversion to give Union Christian an 8-0 lead with 2:57 remaining in the second quarter.

The Dragons (1-1) gained 163 yards on the ground, but suffered two turnovers. Quarterback Quency Pixley led with 81 yards on 10 carries while Riely Dollard added 10 totes for 51 yards. Pixley completed three passes for 72 yards.

Snipes finished with 67 yards on seven carries and was 5 of 9 passing for 55 yards.

Union Christian threatened to score on its opening drive, but stalled. The Eagles were first-and-goal from the Dragon 8, but a tackle for a loss, a penalty and a sack on the fourth down ended the threat.

Alma 29, Russellville 12

The Airedales led 29-0 into the third quarter before the Cyclones got on the board.

Quarterback Noah Dotson rushed for 162 yards and four touchdowns on runs of 1, 48, 19 and 7 yards.

Alma hosts Greenbrier next week before facing Chaffin (1-1) in the River Valley Conference opener.

Greenbrier 21, Van Buren 6

Malick McElwee had the Pointers sole touchdown in the loss at Greenbrier Thursday night.

Van Buren finished with 207 yards of offense with Kyan Rose completing 4 of 12 passes for 104 yards and two interceptions.

Kameron Collins led the running game with 61 yards on 12 carries. Noah Turman added 23 yards with three totes.

McElwee caught two passes for 86 yards.
