FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas men’s basketball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Southeastern Conference this season, according to the conference’s preseason media poll released Monday.
The Razorbacks, who are trying to replace leading scorers BJ Young and Marshawn Powell from a team that went 19-13 in 2012-13, finished seventh in the conference standings with a 10-8 record last season. They’re projected to finish behind Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Missouri, Alabama and Ole Miss, respectively, the 2013-14 preseason media poll. Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Auburn are predicted to finish No. 9 through No. 14.
The poll also was accompanied by the media’s All-SEC team on Monday.
No Arkansas players were among those selected to the 13-man team.
Kentucky’s Julius Randle, LSU’s Johnny O’Bryant III, Ole Miss’ Marshall Henderson, Alabama’s Trevor Releford and Tennessee’s Jordan McRae were named preseason All-SEC first-team selections. Randle, a freshman forward from Dallas, was named the media’s pick for SEC player of the year.
