The Mountainburg Youth Athletics, Inc. (MYA to locals), is hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner and pie auction to raise funds for the MYA’s president Cindy Pense-Clark. The event will be held on July 25 from 6-9 p.m. at the Mountainburg City Hall. Pense-Clark is suffering from a disease called Gastroparesis that basically paralyzes her stomach and makes it so that she can’t eat. Her only nutrition now comes from a PICC line that is installed in her arm. Pense-Clark started out treatment in Fort Smith and was told her, but was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where she has been for around a month. She is home now with home health help trying to gain enough weight, now at 90 lbs, to receive an experimental treatment that may be her only hope of survival, but comes with it’s own risks. They are hoping that she can return to Minnesota in another month to begin that treatment. They need help with medical and travel expenses. Cindy has been involved with Mountainburg’s little league for a number of years. She has been our MYA’s president for a few years and coaches her youngest son’s basketball team. Cindy’s parents have been taking care of her two younger children while she was away. Text Tammy @ 479-414-2232 or Shannon @ 479-430-6378 to help or donate something for the auction.
