Warriors sweep Lynx, win third in a row

CONWAY — The Hendrix College volleyball team won their third match in a row by sweeping Rhodes College 25-22, 25-13, 31-29 at Grove Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 14-9 overall and 5-5 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Lynx fall to 7-16 and 4-6.

Freshman right side Natalie Masten led the Warriors with a season-best 13 kills and hit .500. Senior outside Katie Burchfield had her fourth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker had seven kills and MC Rogers recorded nine. Sophomore libero Felicia Beeman tied her career-high with 21 digs and freshman setter Allison Gaia recorded 22 assists. Freshman Samantha Stockdale led Hendrix at the net with five blocks.

Hendrix will go on the road to face first place Berry on Saturday.

Lady Lions sweep series from Lady Jets

FORT SMITH — UAFS needed five sets to beat the Newman Lady Jets during their first encounter of the season about a month ago at the Stubblefield Center.

There wasn’t as much drama the second time around.

UAFS won its eighth consecutive match on Thursday night and posted its third consecutive sweep in beating Newman in Heartland Conference volleyball play at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan.

The Lady Lions (14-6) won the match 31-29, 25-16, 25-17 to remain undefeated in league play at 10-0. The Lady Jets (11-7) fell to 5-5 in conference play.

The Lady Lions collected seven total blocks with senior outside hitter Jordan Pickett collecting one solo block and two block assists. Freshman outside hitter Payton Hamilton had three block assists, too.

Freshman defensive specialist Olivia Navato had 12 of UAFS’ 49 digs.

Pickett led UAFS with 16 kills and compiled a gaudy 0.636 hitting percentage. Senior setter Stephanie Brock had 38 assists.

UAFS will return to conference play at noon on Saturday against Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla.

Golden Suns top Bacone College

OKAY, Okla. – The underclassmen led the team offensively as sophomore Katie Huff had ten kills and freshmen Kaylee Konsella and Morgan Hatwig each had nine kills each, respectively as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (14-8) topped Bacone College (11-7) 3-1 tonight at Okay High School in Okay, Okla, 22-25, 25-16, 25-9, 25-14.

Freshman Shannon Helm added seven kills, while senior Stephanie Channell added six.

Senior Amber Cerrillos dished out 36 assists and added six out of the 12 total service aces to the match. Defensively, sophomore Morgan McKellar totaled 15 digs, sophomore Colleen Wooten added eight digs, and Cerrillos also added eight. Helm finished with two blocks.

The Golden Suns will travel to Bethany, Okla. to play Southern Nazarene today at 2 p.m.
