SAA picks Pochron as top defensive player

CONWAY — Hendrix College freshman goalkeeper Gabryele Pochron was named the Southern Athletic Association Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Pochron recorded 24 saves in the Warriors’ 9-1 loss to Rhodes on Saturday. It was the second most saves in school history for the Reading, Pa. native. Pochron leads the NCAA with 23.2 saves per game.

Pochron and the Warriors will travel to Sewanee - The University of the South for a SAA match on Sunday.

Cross Country

A-State runners prep for invitational

JONESBORO — The Arkansas State University men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Memphis, Tenn., this Saturday (Sept. 28) to run in the 23rdannual Rhodes College Invitational at Shelby Farms.

The Red Wolves, who were idle this past weekend, will get this Saturday’s action underway with the women’s race at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s team running at 10:40 a.m.

The Rhodes College Invite is scheduled to feature a record number of schools in the college/university division with about 25 teams expected to compete.
