Weevil Ball Scramble set for Oct. 26

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball program is set to host the Holiday Inn Express Weevil Ball Scramble on Saturday, October 26 at the Monticello Country Club.

The scramble is set to begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on October 26. Registration fee is $300 per four-person team, which includes greens fee, cart, lunch, beverages and complimentary gifts.

The 18-hole tournament is strictly limited to 18 teams. There will be prizes awarded for first, second and third place teams of each flight. Post-tournament food will be provided tailgate style prior to the UAM homecoming football game that is set to kickoff at 3 p.m. against Southern Nazarene.

All proceeds will benefit the 2013 GAC Championship Tournament Runner-Up Boll Weevil baseball team.

Surtevall ties for third, Suns tie for second

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Rebecka Surtevall carded rounds of 78 (+6) and 73 (+1) to shoot a score of 151 (+7), finishing in a tie for third place, while Megan Jeffery shot rounds of 78 (+6) and 76 (+4) to tie for 12th after shooting 154 (+10), as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tied for second in the 18-team University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational.

Surtevall finished just two strokes behind Ashland’s Ali Green and one stroke behind Grand Valley’s Kelly Hartigan.

After shooting a round of 316 to start the event, sitting in sixth place, the Golden Suns responded with the lowest team score in round two, shooting a 302, six strokes better than team champion Ferris State.

Arkansas Tech will return to action Oct. 7-8 at the RCB Classic hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.

Trojans complete opening round at Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colo. — The UALR women’s golf team is tied for 14th following the first round of the Golf Week Conference Challenge at the Fazio Course of the Red Sky Golf Club.

The Trojans combined for a 40-over par 328 in Monday’s opening round, tying them with James Madison and leaving them six shots back of Morehead State in 13th place.

Junior Sofia Berglund put up the low round for UALR on Monday, finishing at eight-over par 80 on the 6,262-yard, par-72 layout.

Play will resume with round two today with tee times beginning at 9:45 a.m.

UCA’s Senneryd ties for fourth at Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colo. — University of Central Arkansas junior Malin Senneryd is tied for fourth after the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge being played at the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club.

Senneryd, from Linkoping, Sweden, shot an even-par 72 on Monday. UCA is in ninth place overall in the 18-team tournament. Sophomore Sarah Brown shot 76 and is tied for 14th, while freshman Elisa Axelsen shot 83 and is tied for 61st. Freshman Kendra Bishop shot 84 and is tied for 66th, with sophomore Frida Svensson shooting 87, tied for 80th.

Purdy ties for third; Wonder Boys sit at third in Classic

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Jason Purdy shot rounds of 76 (+4) and 71 (-1) to sit in a tie for third after day one at the Northeastern State Classic as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys golf team shot a team score of 603 (+27)on Monday to stand in third place after two rounds.

The 603 (+27) puts the Wonder Boys just one shot behind Central Missouri and the host team, Northeastern State.

The Wonder Boys will return to action today to play the final round of the NSU Classic.
