Marquez leads UCO Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Harding junior Brittany Marquez shot the best round in program history Monday and leads the University of Central Oklahoma Classic after the first of two rounds.

Marquez shot 2-under 69, the first sub-70 round ever by a Lady Bison, and leads Alex Patton of Newman and India Mathews of Oklahoma Christian by one stroke.

Harding junior Emily Plyler shot 4-over 75 and is tied for 21st. The Lady Bisons are 13th of 17 teams after the first round. The final round is Tuesday at the Lincoln Park Golf Course.

Trojans complete first day at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. — The UALR men’s golf team is tied for twelfth place following two rounds of competition of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. The Trojans combined for a team score of 296 in round one and 290 in round two for a 36-hole total of 586.

Senior Nick Zimmerman paced UALR in Monday’s opening rounds, carding a 1-under 71 in round one before firing an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes to put him in a tie for 19th place at 1-under 143. Sophomore Matias Calderon is just a stroke off Zimmerman’s pace. Calderon opened with a 2-over 74 but rebounded with a 2-under 70 in his second round and is tied for 23rd at even-par 144.

Tuesday’s final round will begin with tee times at 8 a.m. Live results are available through GolfStat.com.

Tech sits just five strokes out of first place.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Julio Arguelles shot back-to-back rounds of 72 (+1) to sit in a tie for fifth as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys golf team sits in second place with a 582 (+15) after two rounds of play at the Heart of America Invitational in Warrensburg, Mo.

The Wonder Boys are just five strokes behind tournament-leader Central Missouri who shot a 578 (+10) after day one and hold a three shot lead over third-place Nebraska-Kearney.

Rowdy Garrett and Jason Purdy shot two-round 146’s (+4) to tie for 13th, Brian Belz stands in a tie for 21st with a 147 (+5), and Alex Mahlik rounded out the Wonder Boys carding a 149 (+7).

The Wonder Boys will play the third and final round of the Heart of America Invitational today.

Fredensborg, Jeffery lead Suns after the opening round

OKLAHOMA CITY — Junior Megan Jeffery and freshman Caroline Fredensborg both carded opening-round 74s (+3) to sit in a tie for 13th, while junior Rebecka Surtevall is tied for 21st after shooting an opening-round 75 (+4), as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns golf team sits in a fourth-place tie, eight strokes behind event leader Oklahoma Christian on day one of the RCB Classic hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma.

None of the Golden Suns players shot below 80, as junior Taylor Kline carded a 77 (+6) to sit in a tie for 33rd and Laura Gallizo is tied for 47th after her opening-round 79 (+8).

The final round of the RCB Classic will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
