Zaborowska places second, Hardin ties for fourth

JOPLIN, Mo. — Harding junior Ewa Zaborowska finished second at the Southern Stampede cross country meet to guide the Lady Bisons to a tie with Drury for fourth place out of the 17 competing teams.

Zaborowska finished the 5K race in a career-best 17 minutes, 29.99 seconds, which trailed only Jessica Macy of Pittsburgh St., who won in 16:52.56.

Junior Dallis Bailey was Harding’s other top-25 finisher, placing 21st in 18:42.20.

The Lady Bisons had 140 points and placed highest among the five Great American Conference schools in the race. Southern Arkansas was seventh (232 points), Arkansas Tech was 11th (312), East Central was 14th (351), and Southern Nazarene was 17th (435).

Southwest Baptist won the race with 34 points and placed five runners in the top 10.

Harding returns to action Sept. 28 at the HU Alumni meet in Searcy.

Evans eighth, Bison finish fourth

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Harding men’s cross country team placed fourth of 16 teams at the Southern Stampede on Saturday.

Senior Andrew Evans finished the 8K race in 25 minutes, 8.97 seconds to place eighth and led the Bisons. Harding had 133 points and finished first among the four Great American Conference schools in the race.

Harding senior Matthew Cumpian (25:37.17) finished in 20th, and freshman Dawid Konieczek (25:53.82) finished 26th in his first race as a Bison.

Harding’s next competition is next Saturday, Sep. 28 in Searcy at the HU Alumni Meet.

Suns finish 11th at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. — Senior Cheryl Nolan finished 22nd with a time of 18:43 as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns cross country team finished 11th at the 5-kilometer Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday.

The Golden Suns ran a team time of 1:40:21, knocking off four minutes from their last race and finishing just 18 seconds outside the top ten. Southwest Baptist University won the race with a time of 1:30:29 while Pittsburg State’s Jessica Macy won overall medalist with an individual time of 16:52.

The Golden Suns will return to action on Sept. 28 at the Ozarks Invitational in Clarksville, Arkansas.
