Cedarville junior Korbin Polly struck out 16 as the Pirates defeated West Fork 10-1 Friday afternoon at home.
Polly faced 26 batters and gave up four hits and hit one batter. He improved to 3-0 this season with 32 strike outs, 10 hits and three walks this season.
West Fork scored first, but the Pirates answered back to tie up the game with Tyler Mowrey’s sacrifice fly to right field to all Evan Fincher to reach home.
Cedarville took the lead for good with Zach Bradford’s (2 for 2) two-run single in the second inning to give the Pirates at 3-1 lead.
The Pirates manufactured three more runs over the next three innings to extend its lead. Corey Fincher, who was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, reached home on a passed ball in the third. He also took advantage of a rundown between first and second to score again in the fifth.
Evan Fincher, who finished with two stolen bases, scored on a error in the fourth.
Mowrey, Bryan Shelly and Corey Fincher each had RBI singles in the sixth. Garrett Parson had a sacrifice hit to allow Corey Fincher to score his third run of the game.
Cedarville had nine hits for the game.
West Fork sole run came at the top of the on Craig Brannan’s sacrifice grounder to first to score Brian Bowerman.
Cedarville finished the week going 3-0 to improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.
After spring break Cedarville faces Subiaco and Mulberry in a pair of non-conference games and Green Forest at home for another league match-up.
