Sport: Football

High School: Greenwood

University of Central Arkansas quarterback Luke Hales earned Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and FCS National Freshman Player of the Week honors this week.

Hales, a 6-foot-2, 231-pound redshirt freshman from Greenwood, threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns in his first game action in last Saturday's 66-35 win over Houston Baptist. Hales also had a two-yard rushing touchdown as the No. 16/18 Bears improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in SLC play. Hales was starting in place of sophomore Breylin Smith and junior Kirk Baugh, who both missed the game with injuries.

Hales tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to senior Jakari Dillard on his first collegiate pass. For the game, he completed 16 of 27 with one interception and no sacks. The Bears finished with a season-high 558 yards of total offense.

Justin Curry

Sport: Football

High School: Northside

College: University of Central Oklahoma

Former Northside football standout Justin Curry hasn't had a lot of touches this season. But he's made them count.

Curry's two-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter capped a crazy 33-26 win over the University of Central Missouri last week — a game his Bronchos led 23-0, only to see the Mules run off 26 unanswered points.

UCO (3-3, 3-3) travels to Missouri Western Saturday.

Curry has carried the ball 15 times this season for 52 yards, and he's caught six passes for 51 yards and one touchdown.

Caleb Sallisbury

High School: Van Buren

College: Ouachita Baptist

One carry for four yards may not sound like much. But for Caleb Sallisbury, playing in a meaningful game sure does.

The former Van Buren quarterback had his first collegiate carry for Ouachita Baptist in the Tigers' hard-fought 7-3 win over Harding University. It was Sallisbury's second game to participate in.

Last season, despite missing half the year with an injury, the Pointers' quarterback threw for 1,035 yards and rushed for 485 yards.

OBU (6-0, 6-0) travels to Shawnee Saturday to play Oklahoma Baptist University.

Addison Mitchell

Former Southside golfer Addison Mitchell finished tied for sixth for Dallas Baptist last week at the DBU Women's Classic at the Golf Course of Dallas. Mitchell shot 1-under following rounds of 74-69.
