Siloam Springs put together key touchdown drives at crucial times in the second half on Friday night.
The Panthers opened the second half with a long scoring drive and added another one after a defensive stop to top Van Buren, 35-32, in the final nonconference tune-up for both teams.
Van Buren (1-2) opens 7A-West next week with a trip to Rogers. Siloam Springs starts 6A-West play at home against Sheridan.
Siloam Springs will take plenty of momentum into its conference opener.
Running back Kaiden Thrailkill ran 36 times for 258 yards and two touchdowns to spur Siloam Springs on Friday.
Tied at 21-21 at the half, Siloam Springs needed 3:38 to drive 77 yards to take the lead for good. Thrailkill carried six times in the 10-play drive for 52 of the yards before Gustavo Fuentes scored from the 2 with 8:22 left in the third quarter.
Van Buren answered, driving to Siloam Springs’ 15 but had to settle for a 33-yard field goal by Chris Flores to cut the Panthers’ lead to 28-24.
Siloam Springs didn’t need to go far for its next touchdown, taking advantage of a punt of negative three yards after the snap was dropped and a heavy rush. On the third play of the fourth quarter, Siloam Springs went up, 35-24, on an 11-yard touchdown run by quarterback Landon Ellis.
Van Buren again answered with a quick six-play drive on Christian Morrow’s 1-yard run, following blocking receiver Jude Bartholomew and running back Brayden Rivas into the end zone. Morrow was 5-for-5 passing on the drive and rolled right and hit Gary Phillips on the two-point pass to cut the Pointers’ deficit to 35-32 with 8:37 left.    
Van Buren’s defense stopped Siloam Springs on the next drive, but Jackson Norberg intercepted a pass on the next play for the Panthers.
Siloam Springs looked to put the game away two plays later after a 35-yard run by Thrailkill to the 11, but Charaun Paige picked up a fumble and ran it back 50 yards. Siloam Springs held and took over with 1:59 left and converted a fourth-down when it coaxed Van Buren to jump when lined up to punt.
Van Buren took a 14-0 lead in the game on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Morrow to Logan Humphreys and a 15-yard touchdown from Morrow to Mauri Newton.
Siloam Springs scored three unanswered touchdowns to lead 21-14 before Morrow hit Humphreys on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 1:55 left before the half.
Van Buren had 411 yards on 76 offensive plays with Morrow throwing for 285 yards, completing 29 of 49 passes. Humphreys caught nine passes for 110 yards, and Bartholomew snared nine for 79 yards.
Siloam Springs had 370 yards of offense with the biggest portion on Thrailkill’s 258 yards on the ground.
