Cedarville won its first game of the season by defeating Pocola (Okla.) 54-14 at Glen Wisely Field on Sept. 15 in a nonconference game.
The Pirates held to its running game by collecting 476 yards on 51 carries. Isaiah Lawson had 18 totes for 209 yards and a score while Tate Larue added 23 carries for 108 yards and three touchdowns.
Cedarville (1-2) hosts Class 2A powerhouse Charleston on Friday to begin the 3A-4 Conference season.
Pointers defeat Southside
Van Buren turned in a 349 and Joe Hamby tied for medalist honors to beat the Mavericks on Sept. 12.
Ethan Rauser carded an 87. Both Tucker Anders and Isaiah Brown had an 88 and Cade Wallace rounded out the scoring with a 90.
Southside finished with a 366.
Van Buren takes on Rogers at Eagle Crest on Monday.
Pointers rallied back to defeat Springdale on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs won the first two games, but the Lady Pointers came back in the third game to win 25-18. Van Buren tied up the match by winning the fourth game, 25-9. The Lady Pointers won the decisive tie-breaker, 15-9.
Van Buren hosts Alma in a nonconference game on Monday.
Alma 14, Booneville 0
The Airedales snapped a two-game skid and handed the Booneville Bearcats their first loss string as Alma won 14-0 Thursday night at Bearcat Stadium.
Brayden Allen hit Mikey Shaddon for a 29-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to take the 7-0 lead.
Booneville’s Randon Ray recovered an Alma fumble inside the 10. However, a penalty and an Airedale defensive stand gave Alma the ball back.
Two plays later, Logan Chronister covered 92 yards for another score and Alma led 14-0 with 2:05 remaining in the third quarter. Dane Martin hit both PATs for the Airedales.
Morrilton 21, Van Buren 14
Gary Phillips and Sam Seeger each scored a touchdown and the defense came up with a safety in Thursday’s loss.
Van Buren opens River Valley Conference play against Kimmons at Mayo-Thompson Stadium in Fort Smith.
