Mulberry, Mountainburg compete at regional track meets.

The Mountainburg Dragons placed third at the 2A Region 4 West Conference meet on April 24 at Eureka Springs.

The Dragons finished with 58 points as Danville won the men’s division with 133 followed by Lavaca (69), Mountainburg, Eureka Springs (39) and Westside (35).

Westside ran away with the women’s division with 167 points and in front of Eureka Springs (96), Danville (56) Mountainburg (8) and Hackett (6).

Shane Rye won both the discus (123 feet, 4 inches) and the shot put (40-3).

James Vanourney grabbed first in 300 hurdles (48.16), second in the 110 hurdles, and fifth in both the long jump and triple jump

Greta Rutherford was the only one to place for the Lady Dragons as she took third in both the 100 and discus.

Both the 400 and 1,600-meter relay teams were runner-up.

Alex Matlock placed second in the high jump and was fifth in the 400.

Austin Taylor finished third in the 100. Austin Wakefield was fourth in the 800.

Cody Fletcher took fifth in the 200, and Jacob Ortlieb seized sixth in the 400.

MULBERRY

Tommy Vanderbush placed in five events for Mulberry at the 1A Region West Conference Meet at Eureka Springs on April 20.

Vanderbush won the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 21.7 seconds) and was second in the 400 and the discus. He was also fourth in the 100 and the long jump.

Lalei Townsend clinched second 1600, 3200, third 800

Faith Mulnar secured second in the 800 and was third in both the 1,600 and the 3,200.

Emily Fowler finished fifth in shot put.

Western Yell County won the men’s division with 183 points and Hartford was second (134). Scranton edged out County Line for third place (69-60) and Mulberry (34) was fifth, followed by Oark (26).

Oark captured the women’s division with 112 points. County Line nabbed second (69) followed by Hartford (61), Western Yell (42) and Mulberry (31).
