VAN BUREN 11, SPRINGDALE 0

The Lady Pointers snapped a three-game 7A-West losing streak in a big way on April 27 by getting the shutout win.

Van Buren (6-4 in 7A-West) scored in four of the first five innings, including putting a six-spot in the fourth.

Caroline Davis was 4-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. McKennah Sikes, Baylor Miles and Janelle Parga each hit home runs, with Sikes, Parga, Whitney Ellis and Hali Bartholomew each recording two-hit games.

Sikes, who drove in four runs, was also the winning pitcher. She allowed three hits in five scoreless innings and struck out four.

ROGERS 3, VAN BUREN 2

SOFTBALL — Rogers scored three runs in the top of the first and made that stand, as the Lady Pointers dropped their third straight 7A-West game, falling to 5-4 in conference play on April 24.

Janelle Parga drove in Van Buren’s only runs with a two-RBI home run in the bottom of the fifth. Lauren Suggs went 2-for-3 for the Lady Pointers.

Van Buren pitcher McKennah Sikes gave up two earned runs on six hits. She also recorded four strikeouts.

ALMA 9, HARRISON 2

SOFTBALL — The Airedalettes picked up just their second win in blended conference play on April 24, defeating Harrison on Senior Night.

Jordyn Collyar, one of the Alma seniors honored, went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs. Another senior, Andrea Griffin, was the winning pitcher as she struck out eight while allowing six hits. Jenna Wilson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs as well.

Alma concluded blended conference play Thursday at Clarksville. As it stands, the Airedalettes are poised to get the No. 2 seed from the 6A/5A-1 at the upcoming 5A-West conference tournament, and if so, Alma will get to play at home in the opening round on Monday.

ALMA 5, HARRISON 1

BASEBALL — Parker Edwards struck out nine and the Alma Airedales earned a key 5A-West victory on April 25 night as Alma beat Harrison, 5-1, in the first game of a doubleheader.

Lane Caldwell’s bases loaded single in the seventh capped a 3-2 come-from-behind win in the nightcap for Alma (7-13, 3-2). Alma concludes 5A-West play Friday at Clarksville.

Edwards allowed just five singles and no earned runs in the victory. He also had two hits and drove in a a run. Caldwell also played well for the Airedales in the opener, reaching base all four times with two hits and scoring run.

Kyle McKeown reached base twice and scored for the Airedales. Drake Pendergraft singled in the fourth and scored on Caldwell’s RBI single for a 4-0 lead.
