Doris Jean McManus, 76, of Manhattan, Kan., died Monday, May 5, 2014, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. She was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Uniontown, Ark., the daughter of Raymond and Clara Mable (Kernes) Turner. She moved to the Manhattan area in 2002 from Fort Smith.

Mrs. McManus worked as janitor and housekeeper for motels and hospitals and retired from St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. After she moved to Manhattan, she worked in housekeeping at Mercy Regional Health Center. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed babysitting, playing Bingo, dominoes and cards.

On Jan. 31, 1958, in Fort Smith, she was married to Robert Lee McManus. Mr. McManus preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1986. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her son, Steven McManus and his wife Deb of Wamego, Kan.; two grandsons: Robert Conner McManus of Boston, Mass., and Noah McManus of Wamego, Kan.; and two sisters: Clara Mongold of Natural Dam and Frances Williams of Van Buren.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of the Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.

The family will visit with friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 U.S. 64 East, Alma.
