M.Sgt. Donald F. Krietemeyer Sr. of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at a local hospital. He was born in Vanderburgh County, near Evansville, Ind., He was an Army veteran of the Cuban Crisis and worked at local manufacturing plants, including Ohio Rubber Whirlpool and Rheem. He then accepted a full-time position with the 188th Fighter TAC Group, Arkansas Air National Guard and worked as Fuel Technician for military airplanes. He retired in 1998 at age 60.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, Donald Krietemeyer Jr.; a daughter, Karla Krietemeyer of the home; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was Dec. 19 at First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

Pallbearers were Boyd and Philip Osborne, Larry Jones, Lance and Alex Krietemeyer, Justin Sawin, Richard Watson and Maj. Jim Olienyk.
