Frank Merryman, 72, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at a local hospital. He was a retired Fort Smith firefighter and a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina King; and a grandson, Shane Morton.
He is survived by his wife, Rebekah of the home, four daughters; Treana Baker and her companion Dennis Mulhern of Cave Springs, Ark., Christy Douglas and her companion Rick Stickler of Van Buren, Rainey Cox and her husband Danny of Mulberry and Shelly Merryman of Pocola, two sons, Tyler Merryman of Van Buren and Trent Merryman and his wife Leslie of Van Buren, three sisters; Lucille Fanning of Arkoma, Okla., and Wanda Zena and Glenda Bricker, both of Fort Smith, 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Vinsant, David Fanning, Rocky Zena, Jamie Hammond, Clayton Terry, Mike Terry and John Lasko.
The family will visit with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren.
