Russell Dane Bartlett, 84, of Van Buren, formerly of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, in Van Buren. He was born April 2, 1933, in Coal Hill and spent 30 years in law enforcement, serving as a captain for the Fort Smith Police Department and the Fort Chaffee Police Department. He was a past president of the Fort Smith Municipal Police Association. He served as a coach for the Babe Ruth baseball team at Jefferies Boy’s Club and was a member of the Retired Arkansas Municipal Police Association, American Legion and First Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Nan; two sons, Jimmy Bartlett of Van Buren and Paul Bartlett of Springdale; two brothers, Ronald Bartlett of Fort Smith and Junior Bartlett of Coal Hill; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was Oct. 2 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Oak Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith Police Department.
