Arlaween Newton, 85, of Alma passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at her home. She was a homemaker and co-owner of Don Newton Farms and Produce in Alma.

She was a devoted and committed wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest pride and joy was being active with and surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Newton; both parents; and one brother.

Funeral service was Sept. 26 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Mitchell and husband Dr. Mike Mitchell of Muldrow and Sheryl Medlock and husband Brent of Alma; one sister, Ruth Montgomery of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Michaela Files and husband Jake of Fort Smith, Nicholas Mitchell of Fort Smith, D.J. Medlock of Alma and Zachary Mitchell of Tulsa, Okla.; and five great-grandchildren, Katherine, Elizabeth, Isabella and Mitchell Files and Ansleigh Medlock.

Pallbearers were Nicholas Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell, D.J. Medlock, Jake Files, Todd Montgomery and Rickey Parks.

Honorary pallbearers were David Crabtree, William Crabtree, Henry Crabtree, David Crawford, Larry Crawford, Bobby Phillips and Olin “Smitty” Smith Jr.
