Nina Clover Bailey Forehand passed from this earth on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Michael Garrigan in Grove, Okla. Nina was the daughter of Reverend John Quincy and Lydia Ellen Blevins Bailey. She was born Oct. 26, 1922, on a farm five miles east of Van Buren on Catcher Road. Nina was 94 years old.
Nina met Ervin Forrest Forehand when she was a teenager. They were married June 21, 1941, in Ozark. Ervin was the love of her life – all of her life. After being separated “three Christmases” as Nina would say, during World War II, they settled in Fort Smith, and raised their only daughter, Paula Gayle. Nina was a homemaker and took care of her mother, Lydia Ellen Blevins Bailey, for 34 years. She enjoyed taking care of Momma. Nina had the heart of a servant. She cared for others and loved her God and family deeply.
She delighted in her grandchildren, Clayton Forest Ballard and Dustin Todd Ballard. She took care of her grandsons in the summertime running up and down the roads of rural Arkansas, swimming in Beaver Lake, and eating Grandma’s good country cooking.
In later years, Nina moved in with her daughter, Paula and her son-in-law, Michael Garrigan. She was able to spend time with her great-grandchildren, Kaylee Morgan Ballard and Ryan Marcus Ballard (Clay and Robin Ballard’s children living in Tulsa, Okla.), and Brandir Alexander Ballard and Freyja Evangeline Ballard (Dustin and Gloria Ballard’s children living in Murfreesboro, Tenn.).
Nina’s celebration of life will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial to follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. A blanket invitation is extended to all family and friends to a gathering afterwards at the Western Sizzlin in Van Buren. Anyone who wishes to visit the family is invited.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nina Forehand Flower Account at the Bank of Grove, Grove, Okla., in the name of Paula Garrigan, Account No. 1232560 which will be regifted to the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team.
