William “Bill” Johnston, 84, of Fort Smith passed Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at a local hospital. He was a retired industrial engineer and a leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of Penn State Class of 1955 and a member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a member of the Van Buren Lodge No. 6 F&AM, Fort Smith Scottish Rite, Scimitar Temple, Fort Smith Scottish Club, Van Buren Lions Club, Sons of The American Revolution and Crawford County Volunteers for Literacy.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret ‘’Peggy’’ (McClelland) Johnston of the home; two sons, Paul S. Johnston and wife Vickie of Mountainburg and Mark R. Johnston of Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Murray Johnston of Delaware; two granddaughters, Devon and Eryn Johnston of Mountainburg; and two grandsons, Charles and Henry Johnston of Chicago.

The family will visit with relatives and friends Sunday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. at Ocker Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson St., Van Buren.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren to be followed by an interment ceremony at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home Van Buren.
