Betty Sue Simmons, 84, of Alma passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at a local hospital. She was a retired owner/operator of Simmons Nursery School and Mr. Qwik grocery store in Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ on Georgia Ridge. She was born Feb. 14, 1933, in Dyer to the late Hayden and Lola (Rogers) Hall. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Simmons.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances Ward and husband Danny of Montgomery, Texas, Elizabeth Alston and husband Gary of Montgomery, Texas, and Carla Seifert and husband Nathan of Austin, Texas; three sons, Mark Simmons and wife Terry of Nacogdoches, Texas, Bal Simmons and wife Debbie of Mountainburg and Bruce Simmons and wife Kelly of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Spivey and Mildred Johnson, both of Alma; 13 grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter, Kevin and Craig Ward, Amy Kryzak, Ryan and Stephen Giddens, Beau, Bryce, John and Katie Simmons, Nolan and Natalie Seifert, Joshua and Grace Simmons and Sarah Coker; six great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren, Carson and Emma Ward, Gwendoline and Owen Kryzak, William and Katelyn Ward, Tyler, Madison and Sammie Simmons, Taylor, Madison and Dean Coker, Brenden Pattillo, Justin, Ashlyn and Randi McCord; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Chastain Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.

Pallbearers will be Kevin and Craig Ward, Beau and Bruce Simmons, Ryan and Stephens Giddens, John and Joshua Simmons and Nolan Seifert.
